This was an excellent resource to help keep my kids accountable for their reading of the story. I could keep track of my students progress, and the questions helped begin discussions in the classroom. Perfect resource for my independent reading program and holding my students accountable in literature circles. Not overly tough, but with enough "meat" to check understanding. ♥ Great for exit ticket-styled assessments. I will even feel confident leaving these quizzes for substitutes, and letting my student aid grade them. That's fast and very easy to use for a ticket-out assessment. It saved me a lot of time, and I like that there are 5 questions. ♥ I like that these are short answer recall questions, not the basic multiple choice.
A fantastic unit that I have recommended to other teachers at my school. They have absolutely loved it! Some of my reluctant readers even commented on how they can pass the quizzes. ♥ Perfect! I used these and could easily see who had not done the reading or who was having comprehension issues. ♥ Great questions! Suddenly Sparknotes weren't acceptable anymore for my students. They ARE quizzes, so the kids aren't always "jumping for joy," but they are engaged because they want to do their best. In order to review, we focus on determining central ideas and themes in the novel as we read each chapter.
Knowing that we will have a "pop quiz" helps keep the students accountable and helps me know what they are retaining as we read.
